MCHS sophomore Malachi Bartholomew planned a performance at the homecoming game. For this performance to happen, Bartholomew requested approval to perform from MCHS principal Angie Brewer and MCHS cheer coach Hannah Shaver.

Bartholomew’s passion for performing in front of the school started with intercom pranks he would do in the morning last school year.

“It started with my intercom pranks,” Bartholomew said. “Ms. Gilstrap notified me that we were going to start rickrolling people over the intercom last year,” Bartholomew said with a huge smile on his face.

Bartholomew said his favorite song is Master of Puppets by one of his favorite bands, Metallica. Malachi said although he loves the song, his main reason to perform was to hype everyone up for our homecoming game.

“They needed some energy,” Bartholomew said. “So I had to take a role to start screaming Master of Puppets.”

Bartholomew received a massive amount of support from the MCHS student body and he said the support makes him feel good and respected by his peers and school staff.

“I feel good,” Bartholomew said.“Being respected by authority is good.”

Bartholomew said his favorite part of performing in front of the school is his audience.

MCHS business teacher Dinah McCall said she is impressed by the amount of support Bartholomew receives from the student body at MCHS.

“It’s always impressive to see your fellow students getting excited, ” McCall said. “They treat him well.”

Although McCall had no role in Bartholomew’s performance, she was excited to see his performance happen. McCall said she thinks his performance helped him re-evaluate himself and get better.

“Malachi is pretty confident already,” McCall said. “I’m sure he was nervous so he was able to perform and re-evaluate himself to do better every time,” McCall said with a proud grin.

McCall had nothing but nice things to say about her favorite student.

“He’s my favorite student,” McCall said. “Malachi is a special one because he’s always happy and he remembers everyone's name.”

Bartholomew’s homecoming performance was his first performance in front of everyone, away from the curtain of the morning intercom. Bartholomew’s face lights up talking about his performance and future performances.
